Right beside The Hanged Man’s flows the main feeding system to the Grand Canal. The water is supplied by the 7 springs of Pollardstown Fen. One of the springs is called The St.James Gate Spring and is reputed to have be the original source of water for the brewing of Guinness. The Hanged Man’s is the pub closest to that original source and of course we would have to be the best pint in Ireland. So now you know.

Welcome to the Hanged Man’s Bar and Restaurant…we hope you visit this family run Bar, Restaurant and Venue.  Pat meets and greets the guests, son Jeff leads the kitchen team and Gabrielle keeps us all on our toes!

Our philosophy is simple…excellent fresh ingredients, where possible, sourced locally from trusted supplier partners. We treat each dish to a creative twist with no pretension.

ABOUT OUR PLACE
Our little place has been going since 1981. We are a close family here at the Hanged Man’s and make it our mission to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for all our customers – no matter what time of day.

Enjoy a carefully pulled pint of Guinness or sip an amazing wine from our extensive collection or find a quiet corner to read the paper.

The building that now houses the Hanged Mans was originally build in the early/mid 18th century as part of the development of the Grand Canal.

Originally a depot for the Canal Company, the building later became an RIC barracks and finally a bar and grocery. The Kelly family managed the bar and grocery for nearly 100 years and the Keane family bought the premises 20 years ago.

The basis of our food offering is fresh ingredients. We try to source locally where possible.  

Jeff Keane is the Head Chef and has a BA in Culinary Arts and studying for an MA in Gastronomy.

Jeff has a young dedicated team that he has trained to deliver a menu that includes the ordinary like a steak but presented in a different way. But also includes classic French cuisine to reflect Jeff’s background and training.
Key to the standards at Hanged Mans is the care and attention to detail in everything we do – cooking, presentation and service.

The bar is designed in traditional Irish style; warm, cosy, wood burning stove, candlelight, dimmed lights and a tv tucked into the corner and only turned on for major events.

But the best way to see and understand the difference at the Hanged Mans is to come and enjoy what we have to offer.
